Come November 7, 2016 and Toyota will finally launch the new Fortuner in India. While the Japanese car firm hasn’t released any official specs of the big SUV, we’ve managed to get a sneak-peak on the variants that will eventually go on sale. The second-gen SUV will be offered in six variants which will have a variant-dependent petrol or a diesel mill, automatic or manual transmission and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive-type.
Unlike the Innova Crysta, which gets two diesel motor options to choose from, the new-gen Fortuner will be offered with only one diesel mill. Thankfully, it will be the bigger, 2.8-litre engine, that will make its way under the hood of the SUV and is likely to produce 177PS of power and 450Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The other engine on offer will be the 2.7-litre pertol motor that does duty on the recently launched petrol-powered Innova Crysta. The four-pot motor is expected to produce 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque. Just like the Innova Crysta, the petrol mill will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed auto box.
Here’s how the variant list looks like:
Petrol Variants |
Diesel Variants |
4x2 with Manual Transmission |
|
4x2 with Automatic Transmission |
|
- |
4x4 with Manual Transmission |
4x4 with Automatic Transmission |
.
The feature list is something that we will have to wait for until the launch date. Authorised Toyota dealerships across the country are currently accepting bookings for the new Fortuner with a refundable amount of Rs 1 lakh. Prices are expected to range between Rs 28 lakh for the base-spec variant and Rs 32 lakh for the top-spec one. While Toyota has its own loyalists in India, it will be difficult for the car firm to match the extremely well priced Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer, both of which recently received a price cut close to Rs 3 lakh.
